Cooperative Extension is your connection to the research, information, and
expertise of Colorado State University . The Department of Human Development
and Family Studies employs two Cooperative Extension State Specialists: Bob
Fetsch and Ann Bruce. Fetsch and Bruce are on the front lines helping families
in Colorado .
Fetsch has written extensively on issues such as anger management, including
managing anger and stress in the family and children's anger. Fetsch teams with
CSUCE agents who teach an anger management program called RETHINK. The RETHINK
method for managing anger: R - Recognize anger in yourself and others; E -
Empathize with the other person; T - Think about the situation differently; H -
Hear what's being said; I - Integrate respect and love when expressing anger; N
- Notice your body's reactions to anger; K - Keep your attention on the present
problem.
Dr. Fetsch is also known for his work in the Colorado AgrAbility Project, which
is a partnership of state land-grant institutions and nonprofit disability
organizations. Colorado State University Cooperative Extension and Easter Seals
Colorado are responsible for putting the program into action here. Created by
the federal Farm Bill of 1990, the program is one of 25 nationwide providing
services free of charge to farmers and helps farmers and ranchers with
disabilities to continue working on the farms and ranches by providing
information on necessary modifications so they can continue to work. People are
inspired to lead productive lives in spite of their disabilities. Each Fall,
Fetsch travels throughout the state to provide workshops for farm and ranch
families who want to overcome their disabilities and continue working on their
farms and ranches. Other workshops are geared toward rural professionals such
as nurses, therapists, occupational therapists, and rehabilitation experts.
