Marriage and Family Therapy

Our MFT program is the only post-baccalaureate program in Colorado accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education. Many MFT graduates go on to work as therapists in private or group practice. Others work in non-profit agencies in the areas of distressed families, crisis adoption, family medicine, and hospices. Some even work with Colorado State's Veterinary School in their pet loss support program.

Our MFT students blend clinical course work with research training and solid preparation in individual and family studies, so they are well prepared to enter doctoral programs.

An important aspect of training in this specialization includes the skills acquired in the department's Center for Family and Couple Therapy as a therapist-trainee. Training also includes a pre-graduation internship placement for a minimum of 500 contact hours and 100 hours of supervised therapy.

MFT students receive individual supervision, group supervision, and supervision based on direct observation, videotape or audiotape.
