The Department of Human Development and Family
Studies
Welcome to the department of Human Development and Family Studies! HDFS is an
interdisciplinary field that integrates several behavioral, social, and
biological sciences. Our perspective is that human behavior is multiply
determined by maturational forces, by individual psychological factors and by
social influences that occur in the family and the community. As an academic
unit in a research-oriented land grant university, our goal is to pursue the
discovery, dissemination, and application of knowledge about the life span
development of individuals and families. As faculty in the College of Applied
Human Sciences, we are committed to working together and with students to
resolve societal challenges faced by children, families, and our aging
population, and promote optimal development and opportunities for all.
This is an exciting time to be part of HDFS! Our
faculty is growing. Our research and educational programs are expanding. We
invite you to explore our website and learn about what we do. Come and study
with us!
